The Folklore Museum of Orpheus was founded in 1978 with the aim of collecting, preserving and disseminating "Folk Culture" of Lefkada.
With the guidance of the lateFolklorist-philologist Pantazis Kontomichis rare objects of the popular Lefkada tradition were collected that had begun to disappear, with the encroachment of the "modern" way of life.
In May 2010, Orfeas acquired a new privately owned space, in a traditional mansion in the old town of Lefkada, where his Folklore Museum was also housed. It was re-exhibited and organized according to the modern rules of Museological science. His collections, mainly from donations but also purchases from fellow citizens and members of Orfea, cover the whole range of activities and daily life of the inhabitants of both the city and the villages of Lefkada. They are organized as part of the Museum's activities educational programs, folklore events and mass tours. The museum's exhibits include home clothing, traditional costumes, kitchen utensils, household furniture, gold jewelry, small crafts, agricultural and weaving tools, photographs, engravings, handwritten letters of important Lefkadians as well as one of the poet Aristotle Valaoritis.
